BCM has been busy developing a news website for Information Management services and solutions provider Enigma Data Solutions. But first, as the first blog in a long while, perhaps some introduction is required.

The company is headquartered in the UK in Houston, strategic heartland of worldwide Oil and Gas exploration - its strongest market.

So what makes oil and gas data management so special? Well there's a good reason why Enigma Data Solutions differentiate their software as sophisticated information management (or information lifecycle management if you prefer).

First, its software integrates with the actual application in use. This is means that all of the useful project or user settings, security, references, database information is preserved. Furthermore, the information describing that project is also preserved - it's one thing searching for a needles in a haystack, try restoring a Multi-Terrabyte oil exploration project backup and searching for a line of seismic data!

Second, its software automates the information archiving and data backup of data intensive applications and workspaces, which introduces its own demands on both hardware and software solutions.

Third, its software is compatible with a hugely diverse range of exploration and geotechnical applications, specialist hardware such as tape libraries, filesystems and operating systems. This is extremely important data storage and handling in the High Performance Computing (HPC) labs of seismic data processing, academic research or semiconductor manufacturing.

Last of all, if we're counting, they've been doing it accross many industries for a long time. Furthermore, in the Oil and Gas industry many of its team have over 20 years experience designing, deploying and consulting E&P information management.

One of the most important parts of this website design was to bring the site to life with a clean, contemporary feel. Crucial to this was maintaining a consistent look and feel, which has been achieved using extensive speed-optimised CSS.

The managability of content is now also much more streamlined and straightforward. Authorised users can log in and edit content without a knowledge of html, more advanced users can edit the html but the look and feel is controlled by filtering tags and applying CSS styles to each area automatically.

Finally, the technical designe of the site is optimised for good search engine results. This is already showing benefits, but these can only improve as the search engine strategy is rolled out over the coming months.

Keep an eye open for new developments on the new site over the next 2 months!
